What a week it has been so far!!

Sunday was the All Candidates Meetings for Counsellors at the Sauble Beach Community Centre that was organized by the Business Associations of Wiarton and Sauble. It was a well run event and I have to say, I enjoyed meeting all the people who threw their hats into the ring too. Putting names to faces. Shaking hands. It was a room of positive energy! We all share the belief that it is important to serve your community and most have done so for many, many years and in many different capacities. I was truly honoured to be included with them.

The organizers of this event, (and of the upcoming event that is Sunday, September 20th) did a great job to offer a variety of community questions and a random drawing of speakers. It was a very fair way to accommodate 11 candidates (one was unable to attend). For a long day, their team kept it on time. The best part: the Meets and Greets! A fine opportunity to shake a hand or two and learn more about the concerns of my neighbours on the other end of the Town. (Thank you to the certain ‘someones’ who brought me a treasure of a picture of wallpaper from across the pond that happens to be an old Aiken Bros advertisement for Victoriolas!) The hardest part of the day was waiting for your name to be called on stage. Some questions made me really consider what I would say, even if it wasn’t my turn and there were a couple that I really wanted to answer. There was also one that I forgot the question was halfway through my answer! But I learned that I knew little about the challenges of operating a Bed and Breakfast and a very knowledgeable candidate was able to speak on the issue. It was a really wonderful event for our community. Both Chamber of Commerces should be extremely proud. And ready to do it all again in a few days for Mayor and Deputy Mayor Candidates.

I’ve gotten the all-clear to leave those crutches behind today. I’m moving to a cane! There may be a future plan to sort all the meniscus problems but swelling is coming down. It will take a while to sort out. Sigh. Only me. Who knew just tripping over my big, old feet would result in such a pain in the…knee? But that means that I will be back to knocking on doors again, but at a slower pace. I’ll be driving the roads at the very least.

I’m looking forward to the ACC Trivia night on Friday. There is stiff competition there too! I’m going as a big mother hen for our team which might be called “What the Cluck?” but I’m not sure. Always been more of a Rubber Duck person. But if you are there….come and say hi.
