Merri Aiken For Town of South Bruce Peninsula Council

The former Sauble Amusements site has been a challenge.
It is a big parcel of land that doesn’t come with much infrastructure attached. Development costs make it a difficult sale.
Difficult isn’t impossible. It gives an opportunity for some more brainstorming.
If money was not a consideration; wouldn’t it be a great place to create a little retirement group there, similar to ones that have been popping up around? Sauble is a nice little community. There’s access to most things that retired people would need. Food. Entertainment year round. Great community. Great scenery.
Or…what about creation of a tiny home community? Currently there are bylaws that require small dwellings to be secured (like with a foundation) in order to be habitable all year long. But tiny homes are designed with mobility of some sort in mind. With our next generation trying to find affordable options for housing, they are turning to non-traditional options. Is there a creative way to embrace this trend?
Or…what about a big paid parking lot for those who want to come to the area and not fight for parking on a hot day? Pair that with either a shuttle service to the Downtown or even to T of SBP beach? Or encourage those bike/tandem bike businesses to set up on the same area as the parking. (Maintained bathrooms would be awesome too!). And as an added bonus, install solar panels that would rest over the car parking spots. This would make the cars less hot after a beach visit and generate enough power to run good lighting in the lot. Solar panels are always better on buildings or parking lots, than taking over decent farmland.
Or…we take pictures of the gravel piles and turn it into a photo op. The Three Pyramids of Gravel? Little photo stand operation. Make t-shirts , sell them and celebrate it! Turn it into a social media sensation. It can be at least a break-even opportunity.
Lots of possibilities?
I wonder what else we can come up with….
